Top 5 Air Travel Apps in the US Soar in Q4 2023

In the fourth quarter of 2023, the air travel sector saw interesting patterns in app usage across major airline applications in the United States. Data provided by Sensor Tower highlights the performance of the top air travel apps, offering a glimpse into traveler preferences and digital engagement.

American Airlines showed a steady rise in downloads from 170K in late September to nearly 182K by mid-October before experiencing a gradual decline, ending the quarter with around 162K downloads. Weekly active users peaked at just under 1M in mid-October, subsequently dipping to around 928K by year-end.

United Airlines downloads remained relatively stable, starting at approximately 158K and seeing a slight decrease to 144K by the close of December. Active users experienced a dip in October to around 540K, but the app rebounded, finishing the quarter with over 651K weekly active users.

Fly Delta saw downloads decrease from 159K to 134K throughout the quarter. However, weekly active users showed more volatility, with a notable spike to over 1M in the week before Christmas.

The Southwest Airlines app experienced a high of 172K downloads at the start of the quarter, which declined to 118K by the end. Despite fluctuations, active users ended the quarter stronger at 784K, up from an October low of approximately 612K.

Lastly, Spirit Airlines downloads began at over 100K and, after a mid-quarter dip, finished slightly lower at around 73K. Active users hovered just under 200K for most of the quarter, ending with around 189K in the final week of December.
